We Wish You a Merry Christmas for String Quartet
We Wish You a Merry Christmas for String Quartet – The ninth track on the Manor House String Quartet‘s second volume of Christmas carols (entitled ‘It Came Upon The Midnight Clear and other carols’) is the ubiquitous ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ (you can hear a sample from it by clicking on the link). The carol is thought to have originated from the 16th century ¬†in the west country of England where travelling ‘waits’ sang Christmas carols for food or other offerings.
Vaughan Jones is the arranger of the carol and added a catchy little introduction which heralds the main melody. This joyous tune is ripe for turning into variations with it’s strong harmonic base and we hope to have captured the spirit of this quintessential Christmas melody.
