Manor House String Quartet in ‘The Originals’
Manor House String Quartet in ‘The Originals’ – In late November we were approached by a Los Angeles-based film and TV music supervisor. He had come across our version of the Christmas carol ‚ÄòThe Holly and the Ivy‚Äô for string quartet and wanted to place it in the popular U.S. series ‚ÄòThe Originals‚Äô (series 2).
In the 30-second sequence, the music accompanies a lavish party set in a suitably atmospheric house, reminiscent of the turn of the last century. The arrangement of this particular carol has a lilting feel rather like a waltz and so would be an appropriate accompaniment to dancing, as well as fitting in with any formal gathering or party. Perhaps it was the combination of its Christmas and pagan connections as well as it dance-like lilt and original arrangement that appealed to the producers of the show. It was a real treat to watch the scene, as the production values were very high and it’s always nice to see a familiar piece of music in an unusual setting!
